British Championships Qualifiers

Posted by Denise Mead on 17 April 2017

The swimmers must qualify for the event with fast entry times based on being a Junior (17 and under for girls and 18 and under for boys) and open age group (18 and above for girls and 19 and above for open age).

Head Coach Nathan Hilton is responsible for training Nottingham’s elite swimmers, and again has produced a team of 6 talented swimmers that have successfully achieved the entry times,

Courteney Price (18)          50m ,100m & 200m Backstroke

Mollie Wright (18)               400m IM, 400m & 800m Free,

Will Gayne (18)                  200m IM, 200m Free, 50m,100m & 200m Backstroke.

Katie Henderson (17)         50m, 100m & 200m Backstroke

Jade Kennerell (16)            50m Breast Stroke

Natalie Meldrum (16)          50m Breast stroke

This team of swimmers will be swimming in a total of 16 events between them with high hopes of making the finals.

Nathan is very proud of all the NOVA swimmers as the whole team has been growing in ability since he joined the club 3 years ago. This has been helped by the squad training at the new 50m Harvey Hadden Sports Village and the Nottingham University pool.  The fact that these 6 swimmers are representing the rest of the NOVA squad at the British championships will inspire the younger NOVA squad members.

Nottinghamshire and NOVA has a history of producing Olympic and Paralympic swimmer’s, household names such as Rebecca Adlington, Paralympic athletes Ollie Hynd MBE and Charlotte Henshaw. Let’s hope at next week’s British Championships our swimmers can start their journey to the 2020 Olympics and inspire the next generation of Nottinghamshire swimmers to take up the wonderful sport at local swimming clubs across the County.

Following on from the British Championships, the British Para International takes place in Sheffield from 27th--30th April, this event forms part of World Para Swimming's World Series.

Two NOVA swimmers are taking part, Ollie Hynd MBE will be competing in the 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 200m IM and Ben Foulston 100m & 400m Free, 200m IM, 100m Fly and 100m Backstroke.
